The Building
A modern icon with a historic soul
Built and completed in the mid-1990s as a pioneering addition to Sydney’s high-density CBD residential boom, Princeton Apartments stands on a site deeply woven into the city’s commercial heritage.
Long before it became the striking 31-storey tower it is today, 304–308 Pitt Street was a bustling commercial hub. Immediately prior to the Princeton’s construction, the location housed a major corporate presence for the Commonwealth Banking Corporation. Going back further into the mid-20th century, the site was home to Viewland House, a premier multi-storey private hotel and bustling office suite centre that hosted hundreds of travellers and local businesses during the 1930s to the 1950s. At the dawn of the 1900s, the block was even a centrepiece of Sydney’s pioneering automotive and engineering trade, serving as the home base for early motor mechanical firms like Hipsley & Waddell.
Today, Princeton Apartments honours that legacy of central, urban connection — blending decades of vibrant inner-city history with modern, sophisticated CBD living.
The building takes its name and character from Princeton University — the double-square motif on our lift frames and foyer panelling carries that heritage through the building.
